Greenhouse alternatives: eight ATS options compared

Greenhouse is a good applicant tracking system. Its site describes "sourcing, interviewing and ATS solutions in one place", it is known for structured hiring with scorecards, and it lists hundreds of pre-built integrations plus an open API. Teams still look for an alternative, usually for one of three reasons: they want a recruiting CRM in the same tool, they need something lighter for a small team, or they are an agency whose work does not fit an in-house hiring model.

This list covers eight alternatives. Each description comes from the vendor's own website, read in October 2026, and we leave out prices because they change faster than we can keep a page current. Hireo is our own product and is on the list, so read that entry knowing who wrote it.

Before you switch, name the reason

The right alternative depends on what Greenhouse is not doing for you. Write the reason down before you book demos:

If none of these is your reason, you may not need to switch at all. Greenhouse's structured hiring is hard to beat for a large company with many hiring managers.

1. Lever

Lever calls itself "a modern applicant tracking system (ATS) and recruiting CRM". Its site talks about building talent pipelines, nurturing passive candidates and re-engaging past applicants, alongside automation, analytics and collaborative hiring. It says it is built for small, mid-sized and enterprise organisations.

Fits best: in-house teams that source a lot and want candidate relationship work in the same system as the pipeline. Our Hireo and Lever comparison goes into more detail.

2. Ashby

Ashby describes itself as an all-in-one recruiting platform covering "ATS, CRM & Sourcing, Scheduling, and Analytics". It offers versions for startups, growth-stage companies and enterprises, and sells its analytics separately for teams that want to keep their current ATS.

Fits best: teams that care most about recruiting analytics and want one system from early stage onward.

3. Workable

Workable says it is "more than an applicant tracking system". It advertises one-click posting to job boards in over 100 countries, an agent that sources and contacts passive candidates, and a full HR suite on the same platform: onboarding, time off, employee records and performance.

Fits best: companies that want wide job board reach and plan to run HR on the same platform after the hire. See Hireo vs Workable.

4. Tellent Recruitee

Recruitee describes itself as a "customizable, easy-to-use" ATS built around collaborative hiring, with a no-code careers page builder and job promotion. It says it is built for growth-stage and mid-market organisations, typically 50 to 1,000 employees.

Fits best: mid-sized companies that want hiring managers involved without training them on a heavy tool. See Hireo vs Recruitee.

5. Teamtailor

Teamtailor pairs its ATS with a drag-and-drop career site and employer branding pages. Its product pages are split into enterprise and small-to-midsize offerings.

Fits best: employers whose career site is a main source of applicants and who want it managed in the same place as the pipeline.

6. JazzHR

JazzHR says it "helps small businesses hire faster with easy-to-use recruiting software". It lists resume parsing, customisable workflows, interview scheduling, candidate evaluations, reporting, job advertising and offers with e-signatures.

Fits best: small businesses that hire without a dedicated recruiter and want something simpler than an enterprise ATS. See Hireo vs JazzHR.

7. Manatal

Manatal says it "uniquely combines the functionalities of an ATS and a recruitment CRM", for HR departments and recruitment agencies. It lists job advertising from one platform and branded resumes with your logo and a watermark.

Fits best: agencies and in-house teams that want an ATS and a client CRM together. Our Hireo and Manatal comparison covers where each is stronger.

8. Hireo

Hireo is built for the work that happens once CVs arrive, mostly at agencies and teams that present candidates to clients. It reads a CV into a structured profile in about 22 seconds at the median, with 9 in 10 done within 30 seconds, and flags fields it is unsure of. It scores candidates against a job with the reasons shown, produces branded CVs under several brand profiles (with an anonymised option), and shares a shortlist with a client over a review link where the client leaves feedback without needing an account.

Where Hireo is weaker than Greenhouse: it does not post to external job boards (jobs go on its own board and pages you embed on your site), it has no catalogue of ready-made integrations (it offers a REST API, webhooks and an MCP server for partners instead), and it has none of Greenhouse's structured interview kits. Pricing is per seat and published on the pricing section.

Fits best: agencies and recruitment teams whose bottleneck is screening CVs and presenting candidates to clients. Our Greenhouse and Hireo page explains the trade-off between an enterprise ATS and a screening-first tool.

Greenhouse alternatives side by side

How to compare them fairly

Shortlist two or three, not eight. Then run the same test in each:

1. Upload ten of your own CVs, including an awkward one, and check what comes out. 2. Move one candidate from application to offer and count the clicks. 3. Ask for the total yearly cost for your team in writing, including add-ons and implementation. 4. Export your data and check you can read it. You will need that the day you leave.

Which Greenhouse alternative is best for a small company?

JazzHR says it is built for small businesses and lean teams, and Recruitee names smaller companies that hire without a dedicated HR team among its buyers. Pick on the reason you are leaving Greenhouse: involving hiring managers points to Recruitee, and simplicity points to JazzHR. If wide job board reach matters most, look at Workable too.

Which Greenhouse alternative has a built-in CRM?

Lever, Ashby and Manatal each describe a CRM as part of the product. Our guide to what a recruitment CRM is explains how that differs from an ATS.

Is there a Greenhouse alternative for recruitment agencies?

Greenhouse is built mainly for employers hiring for themselves. Agencies tend to need branded CVs, separation between clients and a way for clients to review candidates. Manatal and Hireo both describe agency features. Our guide to choosing an ATS for a recruitment agency lists what to check.

Can I move my data from Greenhouse to another ATS?

Usually, but how cleanly depends on the target tool. Ask each vendor how they import candidates, notes and attachments, and test with a sample export before you sign. Hireo imports candidates from spreadsheets and checks for duplicates by email.
